MODERN CLASSICS TO MOVIES
How the HarperCollins/Walden Media Team Selects, Edits, and Markets Middle Grade Books
Walden Pond Press is publishing the next generation of middle grade classics—fast paced, funny, engaging, compulsively readable stories by well-established authors and new talent including Frank Cottrell Boyce, Anne Ursu, Jon Sciezska, Christopher Healey, Chris Rylander and many others.
The press is a joint venture between HarperCollins and Walden Media, producers of films based on children's books. The Narnia movies, Holes, Bridge to Terabithia and Because of Winn-Dixie are among their best known. Previously Walden Media partnered with Penguin Young Readers Group to publish numerous titles including the best-selling, Newbery Honor-winning Savvy by first-time author Ingrid Law.
Come learn from both Editorial and Marketing how HarperCollins/Walden Pond Press chooses what to publish and then uniquely, and very successfully, markets them to readers.
